For example, Tajweed teaches us how to:
Pronounce letters from their correct points of articulation (makharij).
Apply rules like Ikhfa, Idgham, Iqlab, and Ghunna.
Preserve the length of vowels (madd).
Avoid common mistakes that can change meanings.
Why is Tajweed Important?
- Preserving the Qur’an
From the time of the Prophet ﷺ until today, Tajweed has helped Muslims preserve the correct recitation of the Qur’an. Without Tajweed, words may be mispronounced, which could change meanings.

Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’an:
“…And recite the Qur’an with measured recitation.” (Surah Al-Muzzammil 73:4)
